EXE RUN 2018 Dalagan para sa batang Negros

The Kalipay Negrense Foundation Inc., in collaboration with the Junior Chamber International Bacolod Executive, is organizing “ExeRun 2018: Dalagan Para sa Batang Negros”, starting 4 a.m. on November 18, at the Bacolod Government Center, its press release said.

Interested runners may sign up in any of the 3-run categories: 3-kilometer, 5km, and 12km. Non runners may also sponsor a Kalipay child to join in the run, that is part of the celebration of the National Children’s Month this November.

The “Fund Run” project is aimed at raising money to rebuild Recovered Treasures, a home that cares for disadvantaged children, or those homeless, abandoned, victims of physical and sexual abuse, orphaned, and neglected.

ExeRun project chair Stanley Tan said, “We had a wonderful opportunity to interact with Kalipay’s children. I can say altogether that it was a unique life-changing experience. We were given the chance to see the world from another perspective.”

He added that together with the JCI Bacolod Executive Team under the leadership of president Mhel Enderes Sillador, they have committed to be proactive in the campaign to raise public awareness of the sorry plight of abused children in Negros Occidental and make sure that organizations, like Kalipay Negrense Foundation, get to continue what they do, the press release said.

Kalipay has been working for the causes of disadvantaged children since 2007. The foundation manages two homes - Haven Home and Recovered Treasures - that currently house 101 children. It also supports communities where the needs and rights of disadvantaged children are protected and where they are empowered and allowed to grow in a fun, healthy environment.

Founder and president, Anna Balcells, said, “The past 11 years had been very challenging and we don’t know how long we can continue doing this. But the prospect of journeying with these children to live a life free from abuse and hunger, filled with love and joy, is what keeps us going. It is also a pleasant inspiration that organizations like the JCI-Bacolod Executive, composed of young professionals from different industries, adopted our cause.”

Vice Ganda brings joy

By Carla Gomez

Box office star Vice Ganda staged a three-hour concert filled with nonstop laughter and music before a c rowd of about 6,000 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City Sunday night.

The performer sang to an appreciative and cheering crowd, and stopped for selfies with the audience without missing a beat.

The “Vice Gandang Ganda Sa Sarili sa Bacolod!” was staged for the benefit of Kalipay Negrense Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization that provides disadvantaged children with shelter, food, healthcare and education.

Anna Balcells, Kalipay founder and president, said she did not realize that Vice Ganda, aside from being a comedian, also has a beautiful voice. She said the songs he sang were geared towards inspiring people to believe in their selves.

Before the show, Vice Ganda asked to meet with the people behind Kalipay, its volunteers and children.

He was very loving, cool and kind to the children, and showed that he really cared, Balcells said.

Balcells said they are thankful to the comedian for being a truly loving and caring person.

Also performing with Vice Ganda were comedians MC and Lassi and performer Rayver Cruz.

The Negros producer of the show brought to Bacolod City by ABS-CBN, JCI, TSE Live and Valley of Peace was Mhel Sillador. *CPG

Making Miracles Happen for Mikhail

Mikhail lives in one of Kalipay Foundation’s adopted communities, the Alberto Balcells Hope Village- Gawad Kalinga in Talisay City, Negros Occidental. Despite being born a normal kid, at the age of three, Mikhail slowly deteriorated physically. He was not able to walk properly from then on and was confined to a wheelchair most of the time. Eventually, Mikhail lost his eyesight, too. After several consultations with neuropediatricians in the city, Mikhail remains in this debilitating state.

What makes us fight for Mikhail is his happy disposition notwithstanding his condition. He remains positive in his attitude and behavior towards people, greeting them with a ready smile even though he cannot see them. He communicates by touching.

Mikhail is well-loved and well-cared for by his family, especially his grandmother, Rosalinda. Lola Rosalinda has been Mikhail’s source of strength, and in turn, Mikhail is Lola Rosalinda’s life. One can see the genuine and selfless love that this grandmother has for her grandson, so moving that it has encouraged Kalipay to do everything to save a beautiful soul, that it might live a beautiful life.

With the help of kind and supportive volunteers like Gonzalo Erize from Argentina and his friends, Mikhail and Lola Rosalinda have been brought to Manila so that Mikhail can undergo various medical interventions to determine what really is his illness. At present, Mikhail’s working diagnosis is Neurodegenerative White Mater Disease probably Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis Versus Adrenoleukodystrophy cannot totally rule out Mitochondrial Disease. This disease has a ratio of 1:10,000 making it very rare.

Aside from this diagnosis, Mikhail’s doctors are now treating his pneumonia. A nasogastric tube (NGT) has also been inserted to prevent aspiration and to facilitate feeding and medication.

Kalipay Negrense Foundation is now asking your kind hearts to help Mikhail. It is a long road for Mikhail but with your help, his pain will be alleviated. Any assistance will be very much appreciated.
