Healing Through Art - An Art Exhibit by Rafael "Paeng" Paderna

July 16, 2014

Kalipay Negrense Foundation Inc. is honored to present the works of Rafael Paderna though an exhibit entitled "Healing Through Art.".

Rafael Paderna is a name that conjures images of vividly colored paintings and graceful sculptures that invoke emotions because of their powerful messages. Both his paintings and sculptures have been recognized not only in the country, but abroad as well. Several of his works feature women having bigger hands which according to the

artist are "the hands that rock the cradle". The vibrancy of the colors and the grace of the sculptures are striking. But what makes Rafael Paderna’s works stunning are the stories that these works depict.

"For me, ‘Mother and Child Theme’ is the highest form of social realism: the love, sacrifices, the endurances, the failure, and success are all that a mother will face in bringing up a child," says Rafael Paderna on why most of his works center on this subject.

A multi-awarded and well-recognized artist, Paderna’s aim is "to give joy to the viewer, to relate my thoughts, my experiences, and my feelings as an artist, to represent my time so that in the future, that generation will have an idea of what is art in our time. To be remembered as an artist (not a craftsman) and give back."

Kalipay Negrense Foundation has for the past 7 years championed the cause of disadvantaged children – the abused, homeless, abandoned, malnourished and special children. Its goal is not only to give them a new home, but a new life. It was at a chance encounter that the artist Paderna first heard of Kalipay and its work for the cause of disadvantaged children. A close friend had given him some tickets to the benefit concert "Kalipay Mo, Kalipay Ko" featuring vocal artist Jed Madela last December 06, 2014. The experience of that night visibly moved Paderna.

Seeing the joy on the faces of these children who had gone through such painful experiences reinforced his commitment to do something. He knew that it was through Kalipay Negrense Foundation that he could give back and fulfill his long-time goal. He could use his art to help heal these children.

This exhibition entitled "Healing through Art" is the first venture of Paderna with Kalipay Negrense Foundation as his main beneficiary. The proceeds from the sale of his works will all be donated to Kalipay Negrense Foundation, Inc. The opening reception of the exhibit is tomorrow, July 17, 2014 from 4:30 – 7:30 pm in the University of St. La Salle Museum. The exhibit will run from July 17, 2014 to August 15, 2014.
